Diamond

By Bethany

Life is hard.  This group works on changing maladaptive behaviors into functional ones.

How is a diamond made:  High temperature (emotions) and pressure (difficult life events)…  AKA…suffering.  The human body is carbon and so are diamonds.  A perfect clear diamond is worthless.  Imperfections/ inclusions give the diamond the ability to reflect light and have value and beauty.  Give yourself permission not to be perfect.  Flaws make you unique and beautiful.  Perfection is FAKE.  Perfection is a lie.  You can be complete and lacking nothing (holy) and still have flaws.  Do not let your suffering go to waste.  Use what you have gone through to make you a better more unique person.  Learn from your mistakes.  Failure is greater than success.  You learn something: wisdom.

Activity:

  1. Think about ways you haven’t been the best version of yourself in times of pressures and difficulty. What reactions and behaviors did you have that were not serving your highest good.  Pick several words to describe who you were and write them down..
  2. Pair up.
  3. With your partner go over your list and talk about your past ways of being.  Let your partner suggest new words next to each old word.  Talk about how you can implement this new way of being.
  4. Discuss with the group your old word, new word and plan to better respond to your life events.
  5. Talk about how you are imperfect as a human and self-acceptance.
